Missing Gina

Devin, before you left your comment about Gina on my post, I had already started a post on Sunday night about missing her. I was just too tired to finish. I do miss her SO VERY MUCH!!!!

Everyone has a few close friends they have a special connection with. Gina is one I have so much in common with. We met eight years ago and our lives parallel so much. We both grew up in small towns, married the wrong person the first time around, (We are now married to the love of our life!) have blended families, started over with babies after our children were older........the list is never ending. Also, we can be objective honestly without offending one another. I value her opinion, greatly!

I am having Gina withdrawals!:( She has been in Chicago for the past couple of weeks for a much too long awaited reunion with her hubby who has returned safely from serving his second tour in Iraq! Thank you, David! I am so happy they are FINALLY together.........................but I'm ready to resume talking on the phone, emailing, and texting. There are conversations only she would understand or appreciate. I have so much to tell you girl! And, I can't wait to hear about your long awaited reunion..................except for the "monkey lovin."

Democratic Convention

Even though, I have been rooting for the underdog since the presidential primaries (close your eyes, Aunt Olivia)................. John McCain, I still watched the Democratic Convention. My Aunt is a die hard Democrat. I can remember watching the convention when Walter Mondale was running for President.

Michelle Obama's speech was good, I thought. Hillary and Bill, well, they are true politicians. They could sell a broken used car as a top of the line luxury car. They are good at their calling. I was almost swayed, until..............................Biden spoke. He totally lost my interest and I was bored. Then, it was Obama's turn. One question. How does he plan to fulfill all these promises?

Who ever wins, it will be history in the making for sure! A black President or a woman VP?!

Thursday

Elena has had volleyball try outs this past week after school. She will not know if she will make the team till Tuesday. When I was her age, at my little bitty school, any one could participate in any sport with out trying out. That's how I was able to be on the basketball and track team as a bench warmer. It didn't bother me either because I didn't like to sweat. She will be heart broken, if she doesn't make it because like Scott, she is competitive and athletic.

Back to Thursday. Elena called me sobbing @ 4:30 to come pick her up, (thirty minutes earlier than normal pick up time). The plastic covering had fallen off the fire wall alarm when she accidentally bumped into it. She went to place the covering back on it and it set off the alarm. The coach sent her to the office to notify someone to turn it off. The new assistant principle told Elena she was going to AEP and wouldn't be able to be on the team. Being the respectful student she is, she just accepted it.

Before all this drama, Scott originally was going to pick her up. I called him to tell him not to. Since Ricky was in the vehicle, I didn't want to discuss why. He asked, "Does this have to do with womanly problems?"

Now, I didn't go "ghetto" like my Mom would have "back in the day", (I mean that with lots of love, Mom.) but I was going to get to the bottom of this. I know my child and she would not have done anything to jeopardize not being on the team or her education. After I spoke with the coach, and two other assistant principles it was determined it was an accident and it was not set deliberately. Everything was resolved and Elena does not have AEP and she can still try out.

To be continued........................................... pending try out results. Cross your fingers!!!!

P.S. If you read this, please don't tell Ricky. He'll hold it over Elena head, as siblings do.

Outta Control

When I took Elena and Ricky to their scheduled dental appointments, their was a Mexican family sitting in the waiting area. Mom was reading her Bible while she waited with her four children. The teenage daughter and son were playing or texting on their cell phones. Her 10 year old was aggravating the 5 year old. Mom kept telling them to calm down but she had no scene control. I kept quite thinking "How do I tell her kids to shut the hell up?" I didn't say anything though. I did give Mom "the look," so she knew.

Later that night, I was upset with myself for not speaking out.

Yesterday, I returned to the same place for Ricky to have his two cavities filled and for Allan to have his evaluation. Again, there was another Mom with three non-home trained kids. This time, I said, "Quite down! This is a place of business." The kids gave me that deer in the head light look and did as I asked. Mom was stunned that a stranger had said something to her children. She should have been embarrassed. Would you have said anything? Maybe, I should find a new dentist.

Back to School

Oh, it's back to school time!!!! That means it's back to busy schedules, sports, and morning chaos. "I need lunch money!" "Can you sign this paper for me?," as we're walking out the door. How I have enjoyed the summer break from the anxiety, stress and pressure from the morning rush.

Mom: Kids I can either take your pic here or at school.
6th & 7th grader: (simultaneously) HERE!!!

Allan's first day of curriculum.

Allan, in his sister's chair, waiting outside with Mommy (camcorder in hand) for Elena and Ricky to arrive from their first day from junior high.

Snow Cone

Elena had to get one last snow cone before summer comes to a close end. She even paid for it with her own cash. I think the $20.00 she found in her messy room while she was "cleaning" it was burning a hole in her skinny jeans.

To Do List

School starts on Monday and we had an itinerary for the last Friday before the upcoming new school year.

We started the morning by arriving at Care Now before the doors opened for Elena's school physical to participate in athletics. Yes, she has a pediatrician, but I called to schedule an appointment three weeks ago and the first available was September 5th. Ricky had to get his hair cut with Paco. That really is his name. Ricky originally had been cutting his hair with Paco's aunt, Maria, but Paco is way "cool," young and hip.

We managed to get in a couple of hours at Six Flags. (Hope you had fun Zach.) Are these tweens really on a carousel? What would their friends say if they found out?

I had to take my junior high kids to pick up their schedules. Can you tell they do not want to be near the camera or Mom? News Flash: Everyone has parents and at some point we will embarrass you. Get over it!

Our final stop for the day was at the dentist office. Elena had a clean bill of mouth health. Ricky on the other hand, has two cavity. Anybody surprised? Especially, when he thinks it's o.k. to use his index finger with tooth paste to "brush" his teeth. UGHHHH!!!! I learned about that this summer. I think I made it clear the operative word is BRUSH!

Zack

Elena and Ricky spent 5 days and 4 nights with their Aunt Rhonda (Jerry's sister), Uncle Royce and cousin Zack at their home in Boyce, which is near Waxahachie. (Thanks, for the invite Rhonda!) In return, (no comparison) Zack came home with them Thursday afternoon to stay the night.
Finally, the pool is being occupied by the kids! It has not been in use for about 2 or 3 weeks. And Allan has them to play with. I think he was getting sick of Mom and Dad.

Progress

This morning, for the first time since Allan has been attending "big boy" school, which has been three months now, he walked in without me having to carry him in. He then showed me his cubby and led me to his classroom! I felt proud, yet sad all at the same time. I know he still needs me, but it's just another small indication he's growing up.

Forever 21

This evening I went to The Parks Mall to return three pair of skinny jeans Elena "had to have." She tried them on when I purchased them for her not too long ago. While we were at the store, she told me they fit. Then, she decided she better get a bigger size, after she tried them on again at home. UGGGHHH!!!

The largest size the store carries is a 30 (waist size). Elena said she's afraid if she washes the pants, they may shrink. She only took that into consideration after I told her I was not going to buy her new jeans if they didn't fit her in a couple of months. She could tie rope around them, for all I care. That would mean she would just have to wear super tight jeans.

If I don't give her stipulations, she will not care cause "Mom will just buy her more" in her imaginary tween world. NO!!!! She isn't wasting my money. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind her being in fashion, but Mom doesn't have a money tree.

Well, Forever 21 only gives you store credit even with a receipt!! Had I known that, I would have never allowed her to buy anything there, because my daughter needs a 32!

Arthur

Allan has discovered videos, and he loves ARTHUR!! (In my book, it's better than Barney!) I've gone to Target and Wal-Mart to buy him an Arthur video, with no luck. I went to a near by video store and it wasn't for sale but I could rent it for free. (I just want to buy a video!) Every five days, either Scott or I go to re-rent it. I know, it sounds silly, but he cries for it. I don't want it to be the babysitter, but it's a new discovery for Allan. He's in a trance when he's watching it.
Being the non-electronic person I am, I don't know how to operate the DVD player that is in the entertainment center, the kids rigged another DVD player to the t.v. It works!

Papa & Mama Canas

Elena and Ricky spent this past last week with my parent. They sqeezed in time with them before they both start junior high and won't have time too. They love it there! (They went to VBS, fishing, camping and had no chores or Mom harping on them to clean their room.)

Now, Allan on the other hand will ask about my parents, but he doesn't want to stay there with them. He makes it clear before we go to visit that he doesn't want to stay. He's the only grandchild that doesn't. What's wrong with him?

Indecisive

Scott and I asked Brandon before his birthday what he wanted. The answer was I don't care. Well, six weeks later, still no decision, so I decided for him. It's not a Tony Hawk bike, but it looks pretty close to it. We saved about $90. because it doesn't have Tony's name.

Threading

While I was at the mall, I was approached by one of those sales people who work at a kiosk. She asked me if I wanted to thread my eyebrows. It's a method used by people from India. At first, I said no. Then, I thought what the heck? You know me, I'll try anything. So I did it.

It hurt worse than waxing! With waxing, one yank of the strip and it's over, not with threading. I think I held to the arm of my chair so tight, it may still have my imprints on it. It was worth it though. I may try it again, long after I have forgotten about the pain.

20 Years!

I know I am a little late posting this, but it's not too late to brag on my hubby. In June, my humble husband received his master peace officer bar for being a police officer for 20 years! Congrats, Babe!

Crib No More

A few days ago, Ricky took the railing off Allan's crib to covert his "as you grow" bed to a day bed. Do you know how sad that is for me? My last baby is growing too fast! He never tried to jump out of his crib. It was just time make the conversion so he could go to the rest room during the night to potty. Scott and I were tired of having our beauty sleep disturbed by screams during the night because he can't get out. I'm not ready to let go and give him a little boy room yet.

Eternal Rest

April 24, 1924 - August 4, 2008

My grandma went home on Monday afternoon to be with her maker and to reunite with my grandfather. She's survived by eight children, 17 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren.

Scott syndrome

Apparently, Scott is rubbing off on me. First I washed and damaged my cell phone and today after I took the kids to visit my paternal grandmother who is now on hospice, we stopped at Bealls and Hibbet Sport in Ennis to get a head start on school clothes shopping. Well, we headed out to the car to make our journey back home when I discovered I lost my keys. Elena, Ricky, Brandon and I searched for them for thirty minutes before I had to make the dreaded call to my hubby.

Scott was taking a nap with Allan and didn't answer the phone so I had to leave a message. Good thing, it wasn't an emergency.

Anyway, luckily, my parents were still in the area. They picked us up and took us to Braums. An hour later, Scott returned my call. My parents took me to meet him in DeSoto for the extra set of keys and they drove me back to Ennis. (Thanks Mom & Dad!)

It wasn't quite the afternoon I planned for and I'm certain they didn't either, but I've adopted a new outlook (to look for the positive in the negative). I'm "trying" to anyway, thanks to an email I received from Gina last week.

The positive I discovered was spending time with my parents. I really enjoyed the road trip. It's been awhile since I've spend some quality time with them alone.

When we finally made it home, the sales associate from Bealls had called stating someone found my keys in the parking lot. Do you think I would have received a phone call, if I had lost them in the city?

Family Reunion

This weekend was Jeanette's (my mother-in-law) annual family reunion in Brownwood, TX. It's always held the first weekend of August, dead in middle of no where in the TX deadly heat. We woke up early Saturday morning and drove three hours to head out to the luxurious Days Inn.

While there, I learned Scott's cousin is the pharmacist in Red Oak. Who knew? I also, discovered my husband's family reunion is NOTHING like mine, which by the way, I last went to mine 15 years ago. When you do it Mexican style, there's bingo, dancing, music, drama, gossip, and it doesn't end till the beer is gone. I'm gonna have to definitely bring the bingo with me next time to liven it up.

People I don't know and nor does Scott.

Kids if you ever see these people, you can't hook up with them.

Pic taken by an ole relative who took like five minutes to take it because she didn't know how to operate my camera even after a demonstration and she only took one pose...hence my eyes being closed.
The only enjoyment for the kids.

We drove back home that afternoon. You know you are in the country when you pass a DQ in every town. You know, we had to stop. I was saddened when the cashier told me they didn't have burritos. My chin hit the floor, so we just bought ice cream. Normally, Allan just eats a couple of bites of his ice cream and I have to throw out the rest. This time I thought I would just let him eat a couple bites off mine, I didn't get him one. Yeah, I totally got jacked!

Last week review

I made no time for blogging last week. Here are a few things that occurred, though.

~ I washed my cell phone. Yeah, I wanted to disinfect it, apparently. Good thing, I have two extra.

~ I planned on taking Elena and Bran to the Ranger game on Wednesday, but as luck would have it, a storm was scheduled to blow in. It was super dark out and lighting. We waited for the long awaited rain and NOTHING! We postponed our trip till Friday.

~ I took the kids to see The Hulk. By the way, did you know movie theater now require you to purchase a movie ticket for 2 year olds? I didn't get to see the last 15 minutes. Allan said he was scared, so waited in the car for Elena and Brandon.

~ Went to the lake house for the weekend. Took my cousin, Trey. Forgot my camera, so I was bummed I couldn't take pics. Elena caught a catfish..................it cost us about $100. Hope she enjoyed eaten it.
